Beyond the Stars is a storytelling-based technology experience that empowers children in Fiji to rediscover local dishes and healthy eating habits through an explorative journey into their culture. I led the design and delivery of an interactive and immersive health education pilot program in partnership with Sydney design studio S1T2, plus a range of in-country stakeholders.
Implemented in nine primary schools across Fiji, I headed negotiations for a Fiji Government Cabinet approval, Vodafone Fiji and Huawei sponsorship for the pilot, including the supply of tablet devices for the pilot program and allocation of free data for devices. At the conclusion of the pilot, students demonstrated an 11% increase in their ability to identify healthy foods, 10% increase in their ability to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy foods, in addition to 78% of teachers and 44% of parents observing a positive change in children’s eating behaviours.
